Our Curriculum

Believe Playschool’s Approach to Learning

At Believe Playschool, our early learning curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support children’s emotional wellbeing, development and love of learning. We combine play-based learning with intentional teaching so children can grow in confidence, independence and capability.

Our curriculum reflects current research in early childhood education and child development, while remaining responsive to each child as an individual.

A Balanced Approach to Early Learning

Children learn best when they are engaged, curious and emotionally secure. For this reason, our curriculum balances:

  • child-led play
  • educator-guided experiences
  • intentional teaching moments
  • predictable routines

Play-based learning allows children to explore, experiment and make sense of the world. However, play alone is not enough. Our educators actively extend children’s learning through thoughtful interactions, guidance and reflection. quality and alignment, our medium size centre with small size classes is perfect to maintain strong relationships and a cohesive team culture.

Intentional Teaching

Intentional teaching is central to our approach. Educators carefully plan experiences based on children’s interests, developmental stages and emerging needs.

This includes:

  • modelling language and social skills
  • supporting emotional regulation
  • asking open-ended questions
  • introducing new ideas and concepts
  • guiding problem-solving and collaboration

Through intentional teaching, children are supported to deepen their thinking, build skills and develop confidence.

Supporting Emotional Development

Emotional development underpins all learning. Our curriculum places strong emphasis on helping children:

  • recognise and name emotions
  • manage frustration and disappointment
  • develop empathy and respect for others
  • build positive relationships
  • feel confident expressing themselves

Educators actively support children during social interactions and emotional moments, helping them develop self-regulation and resilience over time. Supporting their emotional developmental needs — and responding thoughtfully and intentionally.

Learning Through Relationships

Strong, secure relationships are the foundation of effective learning. Our educators invest time in getting to know each child — their personality, strengths, sensitivities and interests.

When children feel understood and supported, they are more willing to:

  • take risks in learning
  • try new experiences
  • engage with others
  • persist through challenges

This relational approach is especially important for younger children and those who may be more sensitive or introverted.

Developing Independence and Confidence

Our curriculum intentionally supports children to develop independence in age-appropriate ways.

This includes:

  • self-help skills
  • decision-making
  • problem-solving
  • responsibility for belongings
  • confidence in group settings

By supporting independence gradually and respectfully, children build a strong sense of capability and self-belief.

Gross Motor and Physical Development

Physical development is an essential part of early learning. Our curriculum includes regular opportunities for children to:

  • climb, jump and balance
  • develop coordination and strength
  • build body awareness
  • learn through movement

Structured experiences such as obstacle courses and confidence-building challenges support both physical skills and emotional resilience.

Creative and Cognitive Development

Children are encouraged to express themselves creatively and think critically through:

  • art and construction
  • music and movement
  • inquiry-based projects
  • problem-solving experiences
  • collaborative learning

Large-scale projects and open-ended materials allow children to explore ideas, work together and develop persistence and creativity.

Curriculum Aligned With the EYLF

Our curriculum aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children’s learning across:

  • identity
  • community
  • wellbeing
  • learning
  • communication

Educators observe, plan, implement and reflect on learning experiences to ensure children’s development is supported holistically and meaningfully.

Working in Partnership With Families

We believe families play a vital role in children’s learning. Our curriculum is strengthened through collaboration with parents, shared insights and open communication.

When families and educators work together, children experience greater consistency and confidence across home and care.

Our Curriculum in Action

Our curriculum comes to life through:

  • our School Readiness Program
  • Emotional Resilience Program
  • Mega Projects
  • Cooking and Nutrition Program
  • daily intentional learning experiences

Each program builds on our core philosophy and supports children’s development in practical, meaningful ways.
